Legendary Musician at Barone Jazz Festival: Tihomir Pop Asanović in Šibenik

16.07.2025.

One of the most prominent figures of the jazz, funk, and rock scene in the former Yugoslavia, Tihomir Pop Asanović, will perform on September 5 at Barone Fortress as part of the Barone Jazz Festival.

A virtuoso on the Hammond organ, composer, and jazz-rock/fusion keyboardist, Asanović has left a lasting mark on the regional music scene since the 1970s. He began his career collaborating with renowned vibraphonist Boško Petrović, and in 1973, the German magazine Jazz Podium ranked him among the top four jazz organists in Europe. He was a member of the legendary bands Time and September, as well as the Yugoslav Pop Selection, a group composed of some of the finest instrumentalists of the era.

He launched his solo career with the album Majko Zemljo (Mother Earth) in 1974, followed by Pop in 1976—both featuring an impressive lineup of collaborators such as Josipa Lisac, Dado Topić, Zdenka Kovačiček, and Janez Bončina.

His musical legacy continues to inspire, and the upcoming concert at Barone Fortress will be a rare opportunity to experience the rich heritage and unique energy of this charismatic artist live on stage.
