Concert Performance of the Rock Opera Gubec-Beg at St. Michael’s Fortress
To mark its 50th anniversary, the legendary Croatian rock opera Gubec-Beg—a landmark of the national music scene—comes to the stage of St. Michael’s Fortress. This concert performance, taking place on June 13 at 9 PM, will be presented by the Šibenik Choral Society Kolo and the Croatian Navy Orchestra, conducted by maestro Tonći Ćićerić, with choir master Professor Ivo Lise.
Leading roles will be performed by Đani Stipaničev (Matija Gubec), Helena Gudelj (Jana), Adalbert Turner Juci (Tahy), and Saša Jakelić (Mogaić), with support from the High School Choir of the Ivan Lukačić School of Music.
Gubec-Beg is more than a musical performance—it is a powerful story of resistance, dignity, and freedom, with a message that still resonates today. Iconic songs such as Ljubavna pjesma, Ave Maria, and Bratska zakletva remain as relevant and impactful as they were five decades ago.
