Kyoto Jazz Massive
Following their sold-out performance at Zagreb’s Peti Kupe, Kyoto Jazz Massive is coming to Šibenik on August 13th with an expanded live lineup. Joining them on stage at St. Michael’s Fortress will be the Echoes Of A New Dawn Orchestra, a musical collective that will further amplify their concert energy.
This collaboration brings a new dimension to their sound. Led by Shuya Okino, Kyoto Jazz Massive will perform in a formation that has sold out clubs like Jazz Cafe (London) and New Morning (Paris) over the past two years and played festivals such as Southport Weekender and We Out Here, cementing their reputation as an exceptional live band.
The project by brothers Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino—discovered and championed in the early '90s by Gilles Peterson, a global icon of the jazz and groove movement—has been a pioneering force in shaping the Japanese club and crossover jazz scene. Through releases on labels like Compost Records, including the cult album Spirit of the Sun, Kyoto Jazz Massive became recognized as innovators who blur the lines between jazz, electronica, house, broken beat, and funk.
This special edition of Kyoto Jazz Massive includes a vocal collaboration with Vanessa Freeman, as well as a recent musical connection with legend Roy Ayers, further affirming the relevance and depth of their sound.
The concert in Šibenik is the result of a collaboration between Peti Kupe, CMA Promotions, and the Šibenik Fortress of Culture, who will together present this musical explosion on the most beautiful stage on the coast.
Also joining the August evening is a DJ set by Antonio Zuza, selector and founder of Peti Kupe, whose sets are marked by a genre-fluid approach, spiritual jazz, house, and club grooves.
