With a spectacular full-evening performance, the LADO National Folk Dance and Song Ensemble will present their latest music and stage program, Lado around the World, at st. Michael's Fortress in Šibenik on July 13th!
The new program, 'LADO around the World' includes new choreographies, dance, and musical works created specifically for this special program. "We are particularly excited about the fact that we have revived choreographies that the LADO Ensemble last performed in the late 1980s," says Krunoslav Šokac, the artistic director of the national professional folklore ensemble founded in 1949.
In addition to the 'new-old choreographies', three dance-music compositions will be premiered. These are attractive, shorter choreographies of character dances, considered a subgenre of classical ballet, with roots in folk dances from different regions and countries.
"I am confident that the 'LADO around the World' program, in this new and somewhat different edition, will showcase the great performance possibilities, versatility, and talent of our artists, to the delight of the audience," says Krunoslav Šokac.
Lado is a group of 38 exceptional dancers who are also outstanding singers and effortlessly transform from a dance ensemble into a representative folklore choir. 14 excellent musicians play around eighty traditional and classical instruments. The LADO Ensemble possesses a unique collection of authentic folk costumes of exceptional value and beauty (over 1200 sets), so every performance is also a kind of fashion show of traditional Croatian attire.
The Ensemble's concerts around the world receive unanimous acclaim from the audience as well as critical praise, regularly ranking LADO among the best folk groups in the world. LADO has performed on some of the most famous world stages and concert halls, from the Royal Albert Hall in London to theaters on Broadway in New York, from the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow to the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv, as well as in numerous international opera houses, festivals, world exhibitions, and the Olympic Games.
