Valerija Nikolovska
Valerija Nikolovska will perform at Barone Fortress as part of the Barone Jazz Festival on August 29, presenting her latest release, the EP “Green Heart,” for which she won this year’s Porin award in the category of Best Alternative Music Album.
Nikolovska was also nominated in the categories of Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Jazz Composition (as a lyricist), and this year she was additionally nominated for the Rock&Off journalism award.
Blending soul, blues and jazz in her distinctive style, Valerija will be joined by the musicians who collaborated on the new EP: Viktor Lipić on keyboards, Janko Novoselić on drums, Marko Bradaš on bass guitar, Yogi Lonich on guitar and Ivan Bonačić on saxophone and flute.
Valerija Nikolovska has been present on the music scene for more than 35 years as a singer and songwriter, recognized for her unique fusion of soul, blues, funk and jazz. Her musical journey includes numerous bands such as Mayales, Songkillers, Elvis Stanić Group and the Igor Geržina Band. She also appeared as a vocal coach in the third season of The Voice Hrvatska.
To date, she has released two solo albums, “The Bright Side of the Blues” and “Open,” as well as “Well Paid Girls” with Viktor Lipić and the HRT Jazz Orchestra, the session project “She Ka Ra” as an LP release, and her latest solo EP “Green Heart.”
