Mantes
Šibenik-based band Mantes will perform at Barone Fortress as part of the Barone Jazz Festival on August 14.
Mantes, a new instrumental group on the local music scene, was introduced to the public at the end of last year with the release of their debut album “Šapat” (Whisper) on the interstellaR label. Through an unusual combination of classical guitar and a jazz rhythm section, “Šapat” delivers atmospheric music infused with Mediterranean melodies and jazz improvisation.
Behind the name Mantes are Šibenik musicians Ante Stošić on classical and electric guitar, Ivan Stošić on bass guitar and Ivan Burić on drums. This distinctive fusion of classical guitar and jazz rhythm section creates a rich, atmospheric sound marked by Mediterranean influences and improvisational elements.
Renowned music critic Dubravko Jagatić awarded the album a rating of 4 out of 5, noting in Nacional magazine that it is “one of the better instrumental albums offering a different approach to this kind of music.”
The album was recorded entirely live at the well-known Twenty Twenty Studio in order to capture the musicians’ real-time interaction. The high-quality production is credited to Jere Šešelja, who handled mixing, mastering and part of the production, alongside the members of Mantes, who are responsible for the arrangements.
In addition to the band members, the album features guest appearances by acclaimed musicians, including violinist Marko Ramljak on the track “La River” and saxophonist Dražen Bogdanović on “Suve smokve.”
