Winner of both the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at Sundance, DJ Ahmet is a charming coming-of-age story set in the remote hills of North Macedonia. As he struggles with his father’s expectations, a conservative community, and his first love—a girl already promised to someone else—fifteen-year-old Ahmet finds an escape in electronic music. Forced to hide his passion from his strict father, he sets out, with the help of his brother Naim, to pursue his dream of becoming a DJ.

His chance arrives when a forest dance festival is organised in their village, transforming the rural landscape into a pulsating celebration of music and rhythm. The feature debut of director Georgi M. Unkovski is a warm dramedy about contrasts, as well as the delicate possibilities of coexistence between tradition and modernity. The film’s score was composed by Croatian music duo Alen and Nenad Sinkauz.
