Armageddon - screening and talk with Ante Deković
25 Years of SI Skateboards – “ARMAGEDDON” RECUT
dir. Ante Deković; Croatia, 2001
Join us for a nostalgic evening and the first-ever public screening of the Šibenik skate video Armageddon from 2001 – arriving with a 25-year delay.
Created in a time before social media and smartphones, this video inspired then 18-year-old Ante Deković to pursue filmmaking professionally, marking one of the first steps in a career that would eventually lead him to Hollywood and culminate in an Emmy Award. The programme includes a 30-minute screening of the digitally restored Armageddon, along with additional, rarely seen footage filmed between 1998 and 1999 for earlier SI Skateboards videos.
In an era when life could not be documented and shared with a single click, Armageddon opens a window into the past, portraying a carefree generation of Šibenik skateboarders who inspired those who followed. Today, with skateboarding recognised globally and included in the Olympic Games, Armageddon offers a unique glimpse into the streets, atmosphere and spirit of an authentic underground scene from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Following the screening, director Ante Deković and special guests will reflect on the film and the era that shaped it in a post-screening conversation. The evening will continue with an afterparty featuring music by DJ Per Le Cler.
