Darko Jurković Charlie Trio
Darko Jurković Charlie Trio will perform at Barone Fortress as part of the Barone Jazz Festival on July 24.
The trio features a proven lineup of outstanding musicians: Zvonimir Šestak on double bass, Janko Novoselić on drums, and Charlie Jurković on two guitars.
Darko Jurković Charlie has collaborated for years with this exceptional rhythm section, with whom he recorded the album “Dark Moments” in 2017, and the award-winning “Trio Duo Solo” in 2021, which was nominated for Porin awards in the categories of Best Jazz Composition and Best Jazz Performance. The album also earned him the prestigious “Miroslav Sedak Benčić” award, presented by the Croatian Composers’ Society for excellence in jazz composition. In 2025, Charlie won a Porin for Best Jazz Performance for the composition “Cathedrals,” featured on the same album.
At their concerts, the trio performs original compositions by Darko Jurković Charlie.
Drummer Janko Novoselić graduated from the jazz academy in Graz and has performed throughout his career with renowned musicians from the Croatian, European and global jazz scenes. Together with Elvis Penava, he leads the original jazz ensemble Satellite, which released the album “Take Off” in 2010. Since 2007, he has led the experimental improvised electronic music project Tobogan, and is currently preparing his first solo album.
Double bassist Zvonimir Šestak, also educated in Austria, obtained his Master of Arts degree in 2014. He collaborates with renowned musicians such as Amira Medunjanin, Bojan Z, Tamara Obrovac, Didier Lockwood, Satoshi Inoue, Deborah Carter and many others.
He has performed at jazz festivals and concert halls in China, Macau, Hong Kong, Norway, Belgium, France, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia.
He is the recipient of two Croatian music awards Status in the jazz category for Best Double Bassist and Bass Guitarist (2013 and 2015). He has also been awarded Porin discography awards for Best Jazz Performance (2014), Best Jazz Album (2015), Best Jazz Composition (2015), and Best Jazz Performance (2015).
