City Map – Primary School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance at Juraj Dalmatinac Primary School
The Primary School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance at Juraj Dalmatinac Primary School presents its annual dance production titled City Map, which will take place on Thursday, 28 May 2026, starting at 9:00 PM at the open-air summer stage of St. Michael’s Fortress.
Alongside the students from Šibenik, the programme will feature guest performers from the Dance Department of Blagoje Bersa Music School in Zadar, the Silvije Hercigonja School of Artistic Dance, and the Ana Maletić School of Contemporary Dance in Zagreb. This will make the evening a meeting point for young dancers representing different contemporary dance aesthetics.
The School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance at Juraj Dalmatinac Primary School has been active since 2012 and over the years has educated generations of talented dancers, some of whom now continue their professional training in Zagreb. Through continuous work, the school has become an important part of Šibenik’s educational and cultural identity, offering young people space for artistic development and creative expression.
“From the very beginning, our goal has been to provide high-quality dance education and to give children and young people a space for artistic growth. Projects like this confirm how important dance is to the cultural life of Šibenik, while the support of the City of Šibenik and our collaboration with cultural partners, particularly the Public Institution Fortress of Culture, encourage us to further develop new programmes,” said headmaster Natko Duvnjak.
This year’s production, City Map, is inspired by Šibenik itself—its history and architecture, interwoven with the everyday rhythm of life. Through contemporary dance expression, the students will use movement to evoke the atmosphere of Šibenik’s narrow streets, stone squares, and Mediterranean pulse. Choreographies inspired by daily life, encounters, and life within the old city walls will convey the city’s emotion and identity to the audience. This open-air dance experience is prepared by teachers Ana Marija Bogdanović, Ana Jurić Šaškor and Korina Oltran, with musical support by professor Borna Erceg.
