European Fortress Day 2019
SEPTEMBER 27th - 29th
For the second year in a row, Public Cultural Institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik has joined the EFFORTS (European Federation of Fortified Sites) initiative of celebrating the European Fortress Day (EFD) 2019.
This year's programme is intended for the general public. During the EFD 2019, visitors will be able to enjoy in variety of contents that both, St. Michael’s and Barone Fortress offer.
September 27th, ST. MICHAEL'S FORTRESS
Combining tangible and intangible heritage
Choral Society of Šibenik „Kolo“ is one of the oldest culture and art societies in Croatia, founded in 1899. It is among the finest amateur choir groups, and relies on the wealth of Šibenik's singing tradition. 120 performers of “Kolo“ ensemble will celebrate its 120th anniversary on St. Michael's Fortress. Joined by Croatian Armed Forces Orchestra and Mixed Choir Rijeka – „Sempre Allegro“, together they will perform one of the most attractive pieces of classical music, Carmina Burana.
For over 119 years Kolo has kept the tradition of choral singing, nurturing Croatian cultural heritage, fellowship and multicultural cooperation.
A number of awards received for their performances at festivals and choir competitions in Croatia and abroad confirms puts “Kolo“ in the top of Croatian choral singing. Relying on the deeply rooted tradition of singing in Šibenik, they always manage to surprise with the quality of their performance and delight with the diversity of the repertoire.
September 28th, BARONE FORTRESS
Interactive workshops for kids
10 AM - Forgotten Weapons
With the help of visual materials and existing weapons available in the fortresses children can learn about and try out typical weapons used in Šibenik fortresses through various historical epochs.
11 AM - Bagatin - Šibenik's coin
Within this hands-on workshop, the children wil use a mold to make their own clay replica of the medieval Šibenik coin - bagatin, which they can keep as a permanent memory.
Workshop target groups are children between 5 and 15 years of age.

OPEN DOORS DAY
The fortresses will be open to visitors, without admission, throughout the day. On this day, Šibenik celebrates its patron - St. Michael. Guided tours will be available on both fortresses.
